Sukkot 2027 Dates: The Deadlines, the Schach, and the Annual Zip Tie Crisis

Sukkot is back in October, which means it's time to start thinking about Schach, Sukkah walls, and whether this is finally the year you manage to get everything set up without a last-minute hardware store run.

But first, the dates. Because nothing says festive holiday preparation quite like realizing you’ve been working off the wrong calendar.

Sukkot 2027 begins at sundown on Friday, October 15, and ends at nightfall on Friday, October 22. The dates for Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah differ between Israel and the Diaspora, so we've included those, too.

And once you've got your dates straight, stick around. We've got guides for the questions you probably already have, the ones you haven't thought to ask yet, and the ones that somehow involve a perfectly innocent-looking gap between two Sukkah walls.

A quick reminder: Jewish holidays begin at sundown, not midnight. And in 2027, the first day of Sukkot falls on Shabbat, so make sure your Sukkah is ready before Friday evening. Last-minute assembly and Shabbat don’t exactly make a dream team.

Outside Israel, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are observed as two separate days. In Israel, they’re celebrated together on October 23.

Dates Sorted. Now for the Slightly More Complicated Part.

So you know when Sukkot is. Excellent. One less thing to panic-Google.

Now comes the part involving Sukkah frames, Schach that refuses to cooperate, Aravot with a suspiciously short shelf life, and the occasional halachic question that turns a five-minute job into a full research project.

We've rounded up our guides by topic, so whatever Sukkot throws at you, there's a good chance we've already written about it.

1. Building Your Sukkah: Start Here

2. Sukkot on the Go: Cars, Sunroofs, and the Workday Dilemma

3. Schach, Roofs, and Other Things You Don't Want to Guess About

4. The Four Species: Etrog, Lulav, and Keeping Those Aravot Alive

Your Sukkot 2027 Game Plan (Or: Things Future You Will Be Grateful You Did Early)

  • Put the dates somewhere you'll actually see them. Your phone calendar is a good start. The back of a receipt buried under six other receipts? Less reliable.

  • Get your Sukkah sorted before the eleventh hour. Discovering you're missing a crucial piece of hardware on Erev Yom Tov is a very specific kind of character development.

  • Check your Schach. It's doing a pretty important job up there. Best make sure it's up to it.

  • Have a plan for the weather. October can be beautiful. It can also have other ideas. Your Sukkah should be ready for either possibility.

  • Sort out your Arba Minim. Your etrog doesn't need a spa day, but your Aravot could probably use a little attention.

  • Bookmark the guides above. Because when someone asks whether that gap is kosher, you don't want to be starting your research from scratch with a plate of kugel in one hand.

There you have it: Sukkot 2027 dates, plus a head start on the practical stuff. Get the calendar sorted, get your Sukkah ready, and save the frantic Googling for something less seasonal.

Chag sameach!
