Sukkot 2026 Dates: Mark Your Calendar, Stock Your Zip Ties

Sukkot has a knack for sneaking up on us. One minute it’s still “too early to think about Schach,” and the next you’re standing in Home Depot holding a tarp and questioning every life choice that led you here. So let’s start with the part that makes everything else possible: the dates.

The Headline Dates

  • Sukkot 2026 runs from Friday night, September 25 through Friday, October 2, 2026.

In Jewish timekeeping, holidays begin at sundown, not midnight. So the first “real” Sukkot moment is Friday evening, Sept 25.

  • The seven days of Sukkot are followed immediately by the grand finale:

    • Shemini Atzeret (Diaspora): Friday night Oct 2 → Saturday night Oct 3, 2026

    • Simchat Torah (Diaspora): Saturday night Oct 3 → Sunday night Oct 4, 2026

    • In Israel, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah are one combined day (Oct 2 night → Oct 3 night).

So yes: if you’re outside Israel, Sukkot basically stretches from Sept 25 to Oct 4, with the last two days being their own holidays right after Sukkot ends.

Okay Cool, Now That You Have the Dates… Want to Actually Survive Them?

You said “small teaser,” so I’m not going to dump 22 posts on your head like a poorly secured Schach mat. But here’s a friendly map of your how-to universe – basically: now that you know when Sukkot is, here’s how to make it awesome.

If you’re still Sukkah-less…

You’ve got options, from “I want something that assembles like Lego” to “hand me a saw and let me prove something to my ancestors.”

  • Buying a kit? Our guide walks through the different Sukkah styles (Sieger, Open Air mesh for hot climates, Deluxe for cold snaps, Pop-Up for travel, and custom builds).

  • DIY mood? You have step-by-steps for:

If Schach is your stress point…

We’ve all been there: it’s 5 PM, you’re on a ladder, and suddenly you can’t remember whether metal can touch Schach.

Our Schach series covers:

If your sukkah is outside and you’re hosting on Shabbat/Yom Tov…

You may need an eruv – a halachic “carry-permit” created by enclosing spaces into one domain. Our String Theory guide shows how to set one up from house to sukkah using fishing line + posts, what lavud and tzurat hapetach mean, and when to rope in a rabbi to sanity-check your setup.

If you’re doing the Four Species thing like a pro…

We’ve got both practical and meaning guides, including:

If weather or bugs want to ruin your plans…

Your guides have solutions for:

If you’re on the road…

Yes, we even covered the “car Sukkah” hack. I love our brain.

Your Sukkot 2026 Game Plan (A Chill Checklist)

  1. Calendar first: Sept 25–Oct 2 for Sukkot; Oct 2–4 for Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah (Diaspora).

  2. Sukkah logistics: decide kit vs DIY vs custom vs balcony.

  3. Schach plan: what you’re using, how you’re supporting it, and how you’ll keep it from flying to New Jersey.

  4. Four Species: order early if you’re buying (especially etrogim).

  5. Comfort layer: lighting, seating, weatherproofing, bug defense.

  6. Enjoy: invite people, eat slowly, leave room for dessert and stargazing.
